St. Paul Art Crawl Fall 2010

I had fun with my first time participating in the St. Paul Art Crawl. I was on the sixth floor of the Rossmor Building. I was pleased with my sales and Robin also sold three of her "penny rug" table runners.

Painting in Paradise

We had fun during the first week of September
in Grand Marais, Minnesota. I participated in the 8th annual plein Air Painting Competition & Exhibition. It looks nice, but it was cold and windy the morning I went out on Artist's Point to paint this "seascape". Chris Faust, a photographer from St. Paul, wandered over to take this panorama view of this beautiful spot. The wind was blowing off of the land from the northwest out onto the lake so there weren't any waves rolling in. The wind did catch my canvas panel and blow it off of my easel into the water. I quickly retrieved it and saved it from being a lost paintwreck at the bottom of east bay.

We had fun up along the shores of Lake Superior this weekend. Summer... 75 degrees... a cool breeze off the lake...this makes for a perfect day.

Art Perchance

"Congratulations! Your artwork has been selected by our jury panel for inclusion in our Art Perchance exhibition." My painting Spirit in the Water will be exhibited for public viewing in the Reception Hall at the Minneapolis Intitute of Arts from September 19 - 25.

Grand Marais

We had a wonderful time in Grand Marais. The workshop with Brian Stewart was fun. My first plein air painting and my first kayaking trip made this vacation one of the best. We took walks each morning and evening. At the Best Western motel we could listen to the waves at night and see the moon reflecting off the lake. On Sunday the group of four students and Brian drove up to Hovland and painted by the old dock. It was a perfect day.

We took a trip up to Deerwood, MN to meet Charles Beck at the Ripple River Gallery. We like his woodblock prints, but love his carved wood birds. Charles held court on Bob and Amy's front porch and talked about his art.

A health to our future, asign for our past,
We love, we remember, we hope to the last,
And for all the base lies that the almanacs hold,
While we've youth in our hearts we can never grow old.
